Making Snow
We are blessed to have Laurentian Ski Hill in the middle of our town. The City Bus will take you there.
And when the Snow Gods are a bit tardy, as they are this year, we are equipped with the ability to fashion a sliding surface from artificial snow.
Opening for Christmas Holidays is very important for the financial health of the hill and it was opened on Dec 23 with good conditions on part of it.
Cold temperatures and some help from Mother Nature will make it possible to get the remainder of the runs open soon.
In the meantime we should all pray for snow!

White Christmas?
One Mile Bay is frozen over…
…but it doesn’t look like we’ll have a White Christmas.
Oh well, it’s cold outside.

Not Quite Spring
The remnants of winter are evident above and below this power dam. This small dam near Powassan has been in place for many years and supplies electricity to the grid.
Every little bit of power helps, I suppose.

Bus Shelter
When the weather is cold and it takes forever for the school bus to come, a little shelter is welcome.
Today it’s nicer to stand outside and wait.
I had a very pleasant conversation with the lady of the house. Turns out that she and her kids built it without male supervision. It’s a bit crooked and it needs some painting again but it has stood for four years and there are quite a few more left in it. Without doubt, it is a very cheery sight at the end of the day when the kids get off the bus.

Spring Snow
As spring approaches, the snow on the ground out front of my place takes on a new appearance. Not quite fresh and a little tired.
The shadows have a bit more light in them because the sun is higher. Another month and the ice will be off the lake.

Playing in the Cold
Last Saturday was bitterly cold and snowing.
But that made it a perfect day for this kiteboarder:
His only complaint was that the wind was too light!

A Walk in the Bush
We are surrounded by bush. Thick bush. Difficult to get through sometimes.
Near our place is a path that provides a wonderful entry to the magic that is the quiet of a winter morning. I haven’t been back there in recent weeks and this morning provided an opportunity to visit this wonderland.
This is what I found:
A delicate beautiful place to be!

Winter Water
This little stream crosses North Shore Drive near where I live.
It’s easy to miss when you keep your eyes on the road when driving by.
A good argument for walking. Or driving slowly…
