Structure

Here is a structure which speaks to Canada’s past.

TeePee

It is an installation on Lake Nipissing for Ice Follies 2014.

Wasi Falls

Winter weather is supposed to begin moderating near the end of February and early March, but there is no sign that this is happening this year. Today’s high was -16C. Tonight’s low is forecast at -30C.

To keep hope alive, I’m publishing a photograph I made last summer just to help me stay warm.

Wasi Falls

I feel better already!

Snow Sculpture

Mother Nature is a master snow sculptor.

This is a snowdrift formed by the wind off One Mile Bay.

Brick Wall

Old houses in North Bay were built with red brick.

Rectangles

As time caught up with them, changes were made to accommodate newer lifestyles and other requirements.  Some of the original features of the house are still evident in this photograph. The bricked in window and the re-bricked door are two. The external wires for cable TV and telephone, and the modern electrical conduit on the outside of the house all speak to changing lifestyle needs. The external fire escape tells of the change from what was most likely a single family home to a multiple-unit boarding/apartment house.

Life goes on…

Revelstoke

I spent last week at Revelstoke skiing. It is a pretty spectacular hill – most vertical in North America – and steep.

Great view of the Columbia River from the top of the Stoker Chair.

Revelstoke Ski 2

During the week approximately 3 feet of snow fell, making it a great week of powder.

Simple Shapes

Architecture at its simplest:

Rectangles and Triangles

Rectangles and triangles.

There is elegance to simple accommodation in our modern, ornate, over-decorated world.

Paired with fish soup (bouillabaisse), this is a pretty good wine!

Kelowna Sunset

Posting has been sporadic lately as I have been in British Columbia taking advantage of the marvellous skiing there.

We ended our trip in Kelowna with friends.

This is the view from the deck at sunset.

Kelowna Sunset1

A perfect way to end a ski trip.

Winter Gate

This gate is on our road. It leads nowhere but is just decorative. And really neat.

Snowy Gate

It has been there for a few years and it will be for a few more.
