Ice Follies is back on Lake Nipissing. Two years ago I wrote THIS . Smaller this year but enjoyable none-the-less.
I spent an enjoyable time on the ice today making photos of the constructions.
Looks like a building from a distance.
Isn’t.

Around here, February can produce some of the most beautiful scenes of the year.
Like this one:
Delicate is the word for the painting that Mother Nature does.

Silver Star has a rule for building decoration based on Victorian times as I understand it. Any building erected must be painted in at least seven colours (different tones count). This creates a most colourful and interesting set of accommodations – single dwellings and hotels are decorated in most interesting ways. Definitely not drab.
Fortunately the rule doesn’t apply to skiing/boarding apparel, although attempts to follow it appear to be made by some.
Interestingly enough, the administration building (background centre left) is brick and somewhat boring.

Along with twenty one others I visited Silver Star Resort last week for a week of skiing. The OFOS Division of the Hanover Ski Club played in the snow.
One reason that we do this is because it’s so pretty.
The mountain tops in the distance are lit by the afternoon sun. The fog in the valley adds to the drama.
If you stay inside, you miss the scene.

Two small summer cabins on Lakeshore Drive.
Slightly tipsy but looking solid. One supporting the other.
(I’m away for a week. Posting not possible but I will be back on Feb 13.)

I grew up with red brick houses.
Had I been born on the Prairies, I suppose I would not have had the exposure to the warmth and regular patterns of brick walls. Brick is rare out there.
New home construction these days uses almost no brick, opting instead for other materials. The brick facade (front wall brick, the rest siding) seen on some houses is the ultimate in fraudulent design.
Is brick laying a dying art?

This is the last day of a trial download of a set of photoshop plugin filters.
So here goes!
Photo of an active house in winter. A bit of warming, application of the Polaroid Backing filter and nice border plus fooling with the tint in the PS saturation adjustment layer set on soft light.
Kinda wierd but it works.(?)

The other day we had a major snow dump. It cleared late in the day and got colder.
The sun set over a frigid world.

The little decoration here is still making its contribution to the joy of winter.
I’ve had a bit of fun using filters to “jazz” things up.
