Last evening the clouds over Trout Lake were very impressive.

Both seem to work, but in different ways.

An early sign of autumn on the shore of Trout Lake at Portage Park.
Another week will see lots of colour in the background.

These intensely coloured flowers were grown in Sweetman’s Garden by the members of the North Bay Horticultural Society Youth Program.
They were showing their best colours yesterday.

My daughter and her family have a lovely “waterfront” property near Rochester, NY. Last week I spent some time “fishing” for photographs on her waterfront.
Here is the colour version of one “keeper”:
I also got to fooling around with monochrome and made the following two versions:
Not sure which one I like better.
I think I’m leaning toward the colour version, but…

A newly emerged poppy bursts forth with intense colour:
It is still a bit wrinkled from being folded up in the pod.

Sweetman’s Garden is getting more and more exciting as the colour appears.
Volunteers keep the Gardens looking wonderful!
A visit today or over the summer will warm your heart and ease your soul.

These leaves would be expected to be on the ground by now.
They provide some muted colour in the monochrome bush at this time of year.
When spring comes they will fall to be replaced by new greenery.

Silver Star has a rule for building decoration based on Victorian times as I understand it. Any building erected must be painted in at least seven colours (different tones count). This creates a most colourful and interesting set of accommodations – single dwellings and hotels are decorated in most interesting ways. Definitely not drab.
Fortunately the rule doesn’t apply to skiing/boarding apparel, although attempts to follow it appear to be made by some.
Interestingly enough, the administration building (background centre left) is brick and somewhat boring.

The little decoration here is still making its contribution to the joy of winter.
I’ve had a bit of fun using filters to “jazz” things up.

No matter what one’s mood, the colour, delicacy and cheer provided by a flower seems to brighten it up.
We keep them around the house for that reason, I suppose.
In the dark cold days of January they are a particular bright spot and a reminder of warmer days to come.
Or maybe we just like them.
