An early sign of autumn on the shore of Trout Lake at Portage Park.
Another week will see lots of colour in the background.

These intensely coloured flowers were grown in Sweetman’s Garden by the members of the North Bay Horticultural Society Youth Program.
They were showing their best colours yesterday.

Silver Star has a rule for building decoration based on Victorian times as I understand it. Any building erected must be painted in at least seven colours (different tones count). This creates a most colourful and interesting set of accommodations – single dwellings and hotels are decorated in most interesting ways. Definitely not drab.
Fortunately the rule doesn’t apply to skiing/boarding apparel, although attempts to follow it appear to be made by some.
Interestingly enough, the administration building (background centre left) is brick and somewhat boring.

Pride is evident in the care and neatness of these small houses.
Colour expresses the optimism and hope of many whose lives might be considered less than easy.
In my part of the world this spirit is missing in the decoration of houses and other buildings. Is it possible that as life gets better we lose the need to express our joy?
