Sweetman’s Kids
These intensely coloured flowers were grown in Sweetman’s Garden by the members of the North Bay Horticultural Society Youth Program.
They were showing their best colours yesterday.

Flower Day
In the summer I make a lot of photographs of flowers, many of which I don’t use. Until I get to messing around with new ideas and processing foolishness.
A recent post by my friend Silverpixel introduced me to the Autochrome process and I’ve spent most of the past two days playing with tutorials from the web which try to duplicate the delicate tones and feel of the original photographs. It is remarkable that this was the go-to process for colour photos from the turn of the last century until Kodak brought out Kodachrome around 1930.
Here’s an attempt using a shot of hollyhocks from Sweetman’s Garden made a year ago last summer.
I hope the treatment has a romantic and nostalgic feeling to it.

Urge to Decorate
The urge to decorate causes people to succumb to their artistic instinct in the fall. Perhaps the ready availabilty of brightly coloured items from nature is what fuels it.

Sweetman’s Garden Lives!
I haven’t been by Sweetman’s Garden in recent weeks. Today I visited and found a glorious display of colour. The lupins are blooming as are the iris and the poppies.

It is inconceiveable that only three years ago, North Bay City Council considered selling this property for building lots.
