People Photographs from Myanmar

People in Myanmar are shy, polite, proud and friendly.

And very photogenic.

They didn’t mind my making their photographs. It seemed a pleasant experience for those photographed. Showing them the result when possible always produced smiles.

On more than one occasion I was asked to have my photo taken with a local. Not because of my good looks, but more because I am a Western tourist. It was always an enjoyable experience with lots of smiles and laughs exchanged.

And oh yes, it seems everyone has a smartphone.

A Visit to Gardner Bay

Gardner Bay on Española Island in the Galapagos has a marvellous beach. Several zodiacs were launched from the mother ship and people experienced a “wet landing” on the beach. After walking the beach and seeing lots of wildlife, those who wished were able to swim and snorkel in the relatively warm water.

Lots of wildlife on the beach and quite unafraid of the people. The word on visitor behaviour is to move slowly and gently and stay 2 metres away from the wildlife. No touching or petting allowed. Sea Lion moms identify their pups by smell. Touching a baby sea lion could mean rejection by the mother and death for the youngster because of the strange scent (sunscreen, bug repellent…) we leave behind on the pup. This is their home you are visiting and one must respect it.

The guides and zodiac drivers protect themselves from the strong equatorial sun (by wearing masks and long sleeves for example) as they work in it day after day.

Toronto People

People I saw in Toronto on a recent visit.

I took on the role of tourist for a couple of days.  Even though I have been in the town many times over the years, other duties got in the way of just enjoying what Canada’s largest city has to offer.  It was a neat way to spend this visit and of course induge the photography bug.

The highlight was seeing the photography of Sebastiao Salgado at the ROM.  The show is Genesis , it is spectacular and my advice is GO SEE IT.

Quiet Morning

The Erie Canal in Pittsford has evolved over the years from a working canal to leisure.

A quiet morning early in summer finds preparations for a voyage underway, along with people relaxing.

Pedicabs

The Xi’an City Wall surrounds the old city.  It is possible to walk, cycle or take a pedicab around the top of it.

More to see than the Terra Cotta Warriors.
