Window

A window in the wall of an old building.

Everything falls apart eventually.

Waiting

This building near the Erie Canal in Pittsford, NY awaits its future.

The puzzle is ready.  What does the future hold?

North Bay Harbour

The development of the North Bay Waterfront required the construction of a sheltered harbour for small craft.  Rock that had been excavated when the NORAD underground site was built was moved from near Trout lake to the waterfront and dumped into Lake Nipissing to form the breakwall in the photograph.

The small boat marina has spaces for 250 craft.

Nipissing History

The old Chief Commanda served as a cruise boat on Lake Nipissing for many years.  It is now dry-docked on the waterfront and serves as a restaurant and fresh pickerel market.

It was replaced by the “New Chief” in about 1974.

Two Versions

Same shot.  Two different treatments.

Two different moods.

Reach For the Sky

The birch on our lakeshore.

A very dendritic performance.

Rhythmic Trees

The natural curves in trees can produce very rhythmic photographs.

Undulations similar to those employed by dancers.

Lake Nipissing Ice

The ice in Nipissing is being blown around by the wind.

Sunset point has collected some of the shards of the winter’s ice.

Ice Panes

Looking like panes of broken glass, the thin ice that formed overnight was piled on the shore by this morning’s wind action.

Very delicate.

Ice Beauty

The ice on Lake Nipissing moved a bit last week when the wind blew from the North.

The Canadian Shield, tough and unyielding, piles the ice on top of itself.

Little bother, the sun will remove the burden in the next little while.

*Thanks to Francoise Noel whose blog revealed a new (to me) method of changing colour to monochrome.

Spring Activity

The very first warm sunny Sunday with its hint of spring brings activity back to the shores of our lake.

Fishing shacks are hauled off the ice before breakup.

The large flat area is perfect for flying model aircraft in calm wind.

Or sitting reading in the sun.

Curve

Our road was plowed and sanded yesterday morning.  Given the forecast for today and next week it looks like the last time this will be necessary this winter.

A bit too early in my opinion.  Another couple of weeks of crisp weather would be better for everyone.

Despite the grumbling.
