Catedral Metropolitana

In the middle of Guayaquil across the street from the Iguana Park (Parque Seminario) is the Catedral Metropolitana. It is also known as the Cathedral of St Peter. The original cathedral was made of wood and built in another location around the time of the city’s founding. It burned in 1692. This building was constructed between 1924 and 1937 in neo-Gothic style. It is located in the centre of old town Guayaquil. The interior is very impressive.

A quiet place to meditate.

Curiosity

In the middle of Guayaquil, Ecuador, is a small park where iguanas roam freely. They are quite tame and unafraid of the people who visit.

Need Water?

In Guayaquil, as in many other cities, we saw many enterprising people walking from car to car at stoplights selling water by the bottle to motorists.

Water Vendor

This fellow had little competition but I’m not sure that he had much success either.

Scrambling for a dollar.

There are 444 steps. Each one is numbered.

We didn’t take the challenge to climb to the summit.
