Fading Transportation Memories

Canada was opened up by railroads and people used them to get from place to place.

Times change. People move differently now.

As happens with many things, the legacy has been neglected and is being discarded.

The gathering point for dreams was the railroad station. This one in Mattawa ON is fading into history.

Motorbikes

Motorbikes outnumber private cars by a very large margin in Myanmar. The car has a red plate, which identifies it as a taxi.

Private individuals get around by motorbike (many are Chinese made), bicycle, on foot or in the back of a pick-up truck fitted with benches, licensed as a taxi. (Red plate)

Those people riding on the roof of the truck are said to be travelling “Upper Class” by the locals.

Tom’s Camper

My neighbour is a car guy.  He has this lovingly restored/cared-for VW Camper in impeccable condition.Tom's VW Camper

There was a time when one saw a lot of these on the roads and in campgrounds.  A neat, compact way to travel.

Why do I think “Alice’s Restaurant” when I see it?
