Grand Canyon of the East

At Letchworth State Park, the Genesee River has carved its way down through layers of limestone to create this gorge.

Seventy miles to the West, the Niagara River has cut through the same formation to create Niagara Falls.

Genesee River Gorge

At Letchworth State Park, NY, the Genesee River carves it’s way through the same limestone layers as Niagara Falls, but further east.

Pictured here are the gorge and Middle Falls.

The Upper Falls are in the background just in front of the railway bridge.
