Shortly before entering Four Mile Bay, the aptly named Four Mile Creek passes through a low bushy flat.

This moment was very short.  It’s gone now:

Never to duplicate itself again.

One of my favourite spots on the trail near the house is here:

It is a little opening under two large hemlock trees beside what was the site of a small log cabin.  Now only the bottom  half of the cabin remains, crushed last year by the top of one of the hemlocks snapping off and landing on it.

The snow fell the other night.  Not much, but it stuck to the trees and produced a bit of a wonderland.

I walked a trail in the bush near the house yesterday morning.

Winter has officially started.  Yippee!

I’ve been a bit busy lately and there has been little time or opportunity to make new photographs.  Here are a couple that I made about a month ago.

A little more time next week and the prediction of cooler with snow.  Photo opportunities will abound!

This unique sculpture on the Waterfront is the gnomon* of the sundial.

*The part that casts the shadow.

Continuing my little exploration of the monochrome vs colour choice in photographs, here is the same shot in the two modes:

Recently I have noticed a resurgence of interest in monochrome prints.

I published this photograph a few days ago as a colour shot.  Here is a Black and White version:

Each version gives a different feel for what was observed.  Personal preference again.

Lately I’ve become interested in black and white photographs (again).  Sometimes a photograph which is quite ordinary in colour becomes much more interesting when converted to monochrome.  These two were made as colour photos on Sunset point the other day.

The rocky shoreline seems a bit less literal in black and white:

Shooting the other day at Sunset Point where Lake Nipissing has created a beautiful sand beach.  No one was wading but the wind had created the patterns in the sand.  The low sun also helped.

Last year at this time there was about a foot of snow on the ground.  This year, in typical Northern fashion, November has delivered almost three weeks of “Indian Summer”.  Yesterday was quite pleasant:

A bit of ice has formed in the shallow ponding in the foreground.

No ice in the main lake.  No snow in the forecast.

I made these photographs while the gentlemen at the dealership were changing my summer tires for snow tires on the car.

The delicacy of winter’s first snow is a wondrous thing:

What do doors say about what or who is behind them?

When the little white flowers of summer go to seed, these seed heads are produced:

After winter passes, the seeds will ensure survival.
